PADI IDC – Instructor Development Course

Professional Philosophy

The most difficult aspect of becoming an Instructor is choosing your location for your office. As a Dive Instructor you want to make it as easy as possible when looking for a job in the dive industry. Completing your Instructor Development Course here in the Uk automatical gives you profound experience learning to teach in cold water, low visibilty and hard core conditions making it easy for you to teach any way in the world. 

Once you have completed your Instructor Development Course we will give you the opportunity to gain experience as an Instructor teaching in the Uk under the supervision of one of our senior Instructors. Gaining teaching experience in the Uk will put you above the rest in the dive industry.

We are not the cheapest as this would comprimise your training and education however we do consider our facility a team/family based IDC centre offering you a professional, personalized experience.

Our Course Director Ian Angell will guide and coach you through your Instructor Development Course with the assistance of his experienced Staff Instructors. Ian’s background in business bestow upon his important principles in customer service, professionalism, integrity, commitment, and customization, which allows him to deliver your training in a dedicated and personal manner.

Our IDC

We guarantee small groups, allowing us to share our teaching experience and knowledge with you. All of your academic sessions will be held at the Dive centre; our training facility offers a modern and friendly atmosphere using the latest of multimedia presentations and internet access. Your confined water sessions will be performed at our local pool either St James or at Kings college on Wednesday evenings according to your schedule. During your course you can attend as many of the pool sessions as you require, giving you ample opportunity for mastering your water skills development. Vobster Quay offers a friendly and perfect environment for IDC candidates and will be your primary dive site for your open water sessions during your training.  

You will develop your ability to prepare academic sessions used in the classroom, water skills demonstrations for both confined and open water presentations. As a PADI Instructor candidate you will gain knowledge in business principle, teaching children, risk management and other topics that are essential to the dive professional. During the IDC you will complete a skill evaluation and rescue assessment. You will also complete five dive theory exams and a standards exam.

Emergency First Response Instructor Course

 A prerequisite for the Instructor Examination is to be an Emergency First Response Instructor. During this course you will build upon your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others. The Instructor course provides you with additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response primary (CPR), secondary care (first aid) Care for Children and CPR and AED courses. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practical teaching assignments, you will learn how to conduct Emergency First Response courses.  

Instructor Examination 

The I.E is conducted over two days and will be held at a location in the Uk. During these two days you will be evaluated by a PADI examiner on your knowledge development, confined water and Open Water presentations and dive theory.

Prerequisites for IDC

  • 18 Years or older
  • PADI Dive master or equivalent
  • 100 logged dives
  • Medical clearance
